LETTER TO OWNERS RE SUSTAINABILITY REPORTS
Below is the draft text of an email or letter to your owners to help explain their obligations.
Dear Homeowner,
From the 1st of January 2010 the Queensland Government requires a new "Sustainability Declaration" be complete for all residential properties that are for sale.
The Sustainability Declaration is a checklist to assess the properties environmental and social sustainability with regard to energy efficiency, water conservation, general safety and access to the property.
It is designed to increase the awareness of the sustainability features included in a property and increase the sustainability performance of Queensland homes. The Sustainability Declaration must be made available to any prospective buyer who requests it, reference must be made to it in nearly all marketing and it must be on display at open for inspections.
Failure to comply can mean fines of up to $2,000 for you and $10,000 for our agency. In this light we are doing everything we can to ensure compliance. Failure to comply will mean we are forced to remove your property from the market.
You have a choice to complete the Declaration yourself or alternatively an independent assessor can review your property and report back to you for your final sign off. Either way, you as the owner must sign off on the Declaration and you may be liable for incorrect information contained on it.
We strongly recommend an independent assessor review your property to ensure the form is filled in correctly. Sustainability Reports is an organisation that has been reviewing the legislation and established a processes to ensure the effective completion of the Sustainability Declaration.
